![]() A journal of all things Apple & beyond from the members of MacMentor
Hell hath frozen over...
Chris Pirillo has switched to the Mac.
Congratulations to Teacher617
MacMentor's own Teacher617 celebrated the new year by having an article published in the January 2008 issue of About This Particular Macintosh . See how she combines classic children's literature and the ilife suite into a truly unique project. If you are already a regular ATPM reader and have already seen the article spread the word. If you are not a regular reader this article is a good place to start.
Thanks to sidewall for starting this thread which inspired the article. Intruder also gets credit for providing some "encouragement" to get things started.
We're back!
Some dirty rotten hacker used a security hole in geeklog (what powers this side of macmentor that is not the forums) and used that access to the host server to attack another server.
Our host (I highly recommend!!!) in her infinite grace and wisdom turned us off to stop the attack. I thank her for it as I will support any and all actions to take down hackers. I have been lazy of late with upgrades and junk this was the boot I needed unfortunatly it had such awful results, I'll try to be better so we aren't used to cause other netizens such pain. It's a lesson learned for sure. As a result of the upgrade, the config file was replaced and changed some settings this side, most noticibly the appearance template, so hold on a few I'll ge our make up back on here in a few. I have to do a nother upgrade, of the forum systems as well. And, If someone got spam from macmentor.org (i'm not sure of the nature of the attack), it wasn't us, we're a lowly little mac fan site. we're sorry they used us to hurt you. We're not spammers, promise.
My biggest wish for iTunes
Okay, here I am hoping I have some ITMS dev team readers here, long shot I know... My mom gave me $50 in itunes for basically being the most perfect child she's birthed (Up yours Chris! HA!!), so having money to blow, I thought this would be an ideal time to pad out my 80s collection.
I WANT ITUNES TO LOOK IN MY LIBRARY AS I ADD SONGS AND TELL ME IF I HAVE THEM ALREADY! I am sick of spending $50 on music to find out 7 of the songs I bought I already had.
I want it to say "Oh waitaminnit toots, it looks like you might have songs by this title already (show a list of any close matching titles and/or artist names) Do you still want to buy this?" and then give me a yes and no button.
That's all I want. Really. PLEASE. All this three window crap so I can more effortlessly jump between my genre list, my shopping cart and the store window is a pain in the ass and avoiding it would be worth the world to me.
Intel iMac first impressions
I stopped in at the local Apple store today, and they had the Intel iMacs everywhere. I got my hands on one and gave it a tryout. First impressions are very positive. The machine itself seems really snappy. I didn't try out too many apps on it, but tried a few to give me an idea of what the machine has.
BlackBerry
I bought a BlackBerry on Ebay, after hearing that 'PocketMac' could sync it to my Emac so I could download my address book into it. Fools rush in. The BlackBerry I bought was previously owned by a corporation which had deleted many of its options - for security reasons no doubt. These deletions and 'Policy' programs had disenabled the BlackBerry from syncing via PocketMac to my EMac. My supplier Vodafone advised that I could reprogram the BlackBerry via a Windows PC only - but only if the 'Policy' programs allowed it. If they didn't I was stuck with finding out who the previous owner was (would you like a quest for the rest of your life?). I'm still trying, but regret ever buying the damn thing in the first place. Let this be a warning to Mac-BlackBerry-Ebay people.
iPod Top Froogle Search
Google has released Zeitgeist, their year end searching statistics, and at the top of the Froogle top ten list is iPod. Also contained in the list are all of the current iPod models including now defunct Mini. Furthermore iTunes is number 6 in the top ten gainers list, it even beat out Leonardo da Vinci who was numer 10 on the list.
