First Looks: MacBook
I'm here at the Apple store in Grand Rapids, Michigan and typing on the new MacBook (no pro). The first thing I notice as I type is the keyboard. The keys are slightly separated and are more like individual buttons rather than a normal keyboard. They have a good tactile feel but the spacing kind of throws me off so I frequently hit wrong keys but now that I've typed a few sentences I'm getting more used to it.
The glossy screen really isn't that bad. I was afraid that it was going to reflect everything, it doesn't. If you look straight on you don't notice that it is glossy that much even in the brighly lit Apple store. If you look at it at an angle you see a little more reflection but it's easy to look past it and focus on what's on the screen.
Something that most people didn't notice about the black MacBook is that it isn't glossy like the black iPod. It has more of a matte finish more like G3 PowerBook.
Just for kicks I just opened up iTunes, iMovie, iDVD, and GarageBand and to fully load everything up it took about 30 seconds. It choked and when the dock icons jumped they were pretty jumpy and not smooth.
The speakers suck big time. They're clear but very tinny; worse than the old iBook speakers.
Probably the biggest potential problem is that these are hot little buggers. Just as bad as the MBP. It's almost uncomfortable to touch,
That's it for now. If you have an additional question feel free to email me or post a thread on the forums.
